San Jose Police Chief Anthony Mata said 32-year-old Robert Carter died in a gunfight with officers after a crime spree that ended when four officers opened fire on him.

In a series of tweets that began at 7:28pm Wednesday, San Jose police reported that officers shot a carjacking suspect near West Hedding Street and Park Avenue, at the city's western boundary with Santa Clara.
