Prosecutors said Zachary Chernicky was driving his Telsa more than 140 mph on Highway 87 before he smashed into the back of a car, killing a woman and her 2-year-old child.

The DA's Cold Case Unit said the body of Jeanette Ralston, then 24-years-old and living in San Mateo, was found in the back seat of her Volkswagen Beetle near a San Jose apartment complex in 1977. Police said she had been strangled and raped, and the killer had tried unsuccessfully to burn the car.

San Jose detectives had identified Juan Ramirez as the man who fatally stabbed the woman, who died at a local hospital after the attack in the afternoon of March 22, 2013, in the 900 block of North First Street.
