Pierluigi Oliverio Will Run for Mayor in 2014

The 2014 mayor’s race in San Jose won’t officially start until later this year, but a new contender has emerged in what’s expected to be a massive field. Pierluigi Oliverio, a councilman for the Willow Glen/Rose Garden districts (and SJI columnist), tells Fly that he will indeed join the race to replace Mr. Burns—ahem, we mean Mayor Chuck Reed. Oliverio is one of three Sicilians expected to join the race, as labor-aligned Supervisor Dave Cortese—so eloquent his words seem to be laced with Ambien—and business darling Sam Liccardo, who reps the downtown council district with an iron bike helmet, have yet to throw their names in the anello. But Oliverio—who’ll also do battle with Madison Nguyen, the vice mayor who announced her candidacy last year with the fanfare of a tree falling in the woods—can throw a little shade at his Italiano counterparts considering he’s the only first-generation paesano and actually speaks the language fluently. He also has the uncanny ability to sport a 5 o’clock shadow as soon as he rinses out the razor. Jokes aside, Oliverio makes for a formidable candidate considering his district, in which he was overwhelmingly re-elected to represent last summer, turns out the votes better than Liccardo or Nguyen’s districts. And he has developed a reputation as a rogue vote that balances fiscal conservatism with social liberalism. And to give Fly a little more material, Oliverio is also a bachelor. Where his online dating efforts may have failed at the council level, being mayor in the 10th largest city in America could facilitate a few more single ladies winking their way into his heart.

  1. Maybe 98,000 will vote with an “overwhelmingly” decisive win of 70,000 plus in a city of over 1,000,000! Hey San Jose voters are you gonna be sleeping at the wheel again? Sound familiar? It doesnt take much for a very bad measure or a very bad politician to be passed or elected. Lets keep driving the city into the ground! Its all about the “cartel” who has money with friends in high places. This city deserves everything that is occurring.

      • I have two names for you WRT Cortese: Patricia Martinez-Roach & Jimmy Nguyen. Cortese was part of the labor cabal that got us into the pension mess, and is nothing more than a labor shill.

A sizable something should coalesce around Cortese…

  2. Did everybody see last nights KNTV report on stolen vehicles. Pier stuck his foot in his mouth again, those darn parolees getting in the way again. Maybe if we investigated stolen vehicles crimes, just maybe, we would not have such a huge problem.

As for running for mayor, he must really think highly of himself.

  3. I just want to see fresh, new faces. No more of these same people in the same circles. It’s like we keep getting the same old worn out something over and over and over again. Go away, already. Give us something new for a change; something for us to get excited and happy about.
