Power was restored on Christmas day to all but about 2,000 of the 21,000 customers who had lost power the night before, according to PG&E.

Daniel Catano is also suspected of setting at least eight other fires in Gilroy and committing an auto burglary July 10 in Morgan Hill, when one of the victims—an off-duty officer—followed the suspect, who was able to evade officers.

Firefighters worked overnight putting out hotspots and preventing flare-ups. There were no reports of injuries as of early Thursday morning. 

Witnesses on the scene of the fire alerted arriving police officers to a person suspected of starting the fire., and he was arrested and charged with arson while firefighters fought to control the blaze.

Prosecutors said the April 9 fire that destroyed $14 million worth of merchandise in a Home Depot store on Blossom Hill Road was deliberately set by a man stealing power tools who is now in custody facing arson and theft charges.

The fire continued to burn Saturday evening in the 1200 block of Bayshore Road in Benicia, near the Amports docks.

About the same time and the same location as the 35-acre Silicon Fire, PG&E responded to a report that metallic balloons had come into contact with transmission lines.

Parts of the Bay Area, including Santa Clara County, are at risk of power outages and increased fire danger this week.
