Richard Tillman admitted ramming his car into the front of the post office on Crown Boulevard in San Jose, then set fire to it in the early hours of July 20, 2025.

Richard Tillman was arrested in connection with the crash on suspicion of arson. He was identified as the youngest brother of Pat Tillman, the former professional football player turned Army Ranger who was killed in Afghanistan in 2004.

Investigators found that the fire code violations were not isolated to a single Home Depot store: Between 2018 and 2023, the 13 other Home Depot stores across Santa Clara County had been issued notices of fire code violations.
