Madison Nguyen Joins Ash Kalra in 2016 State Assembly Race

Madison Nguyen officially announced her plans to run for the 27th Assembly District, which would pit her against former San Jose City Council colleague Ash Kalra.

The former vice mayor termed out in 2014 after eight years at City Hall, where she positioned herself as an ally to ex-Mayor Chuck Reed and a proponent of Measure B. When it came to pension reform, Nguyen was often at odds with Kalra, who remains on the council and is expected to draw support from public sector unions.

"California is moving in the right direction," Nguyen said in a message to supporters this week, "but we must move even faster to strengthen our education system for all students, boost middle class jobs for working families to reduce income inequality and reaffirm our commitment to address the housing crisis in San Jose."

Nguyen's list of endorsements already includes: Reed, Santa Clara County Assessor Larry Stone and former State Controller Steve Westly.

Kalra filed his first campaign form in December and publicly announced his bid for AD27 back in January. He has an early fundraising lead. Activist Cong Do began organizing a campaign for the same seat before the New Year.

The majority Latino and Asian 27th District spans the eastern half of San Jose. The seat is currently held by Nora Campos (D-San Jose), and she's doing a bang-up job.

  1. Now thats Funny ! Madison is nothing more than Reed’s hand Puppet. How can she say , “California is moving in the right direction,”But we must move even faster to strengthen our education system for all students , boost middle class jobs for working families to reduce income inequallity and reaffirm our commitment to address the housing crisis in San Jose” . This Potatohead is just like Reed , talks out of both sides of her neck . She along with Reeds Pose ( Constant , Nguyen,Hererra,Oliverio , figone) did everything they could to villainize, demoralize , and destroy San Jose employees.

  2. Politician-speak is S-O-O-O-O-O mindless and vacant.

What does any of this crap mean anyway?

    > “But we must move even faster to strengthen our education system for all students”

Close all private and charter schools and force everyone into the public schools. That’s the only way the gubbermint can do anything “for ALL STUDENTS”.

    > “boost middle class jobs for working families to reduce income inequallity”

Assign gubbermint jobs to everyone and make sure that they all pay the same.

    > “reaffirm our commitment to address the housing crisis in San Jose”

Bribe/coerce developers to build more subsidized housing in San Jose, so that San Jose can proudly hype it’s new motto: “The Capital of Silicon Valley Government Subsidized Housing”.

And that’s from the “better” candidate in the race.

The second stringer wanted to give “the homeless” warm gloves or socks when he was a mere city council member. As a state legislator he’ll probably want to give them solar powered long underwear.

  3. America: The Land of Opportunity.
Emigrate to America. Raise your kids to believe in the big government model. Encourage them to embark on a career in politics. The sky’s the limit as long as they are educated to have zero regard for the principles of individual responsibility and personal liberty and have no shame about taking money from those who worked for it and giving it to those that didn’t.
I’m so delighted that these two are fulfilling their career ambitions.

  4. >.Activist Cong Do began organizing a campaign for the same seat before the New Year.

Well, since I have been sitting home, eating snack food, watching TV, taking naps, and NOT organizing a campaign, I guess that makes me an INACTIVIST.

I guess if I were to organize a campaign to advocate for more inactivism, that would make me an inactivist activist?

  5. One thing that hasn’t been mentioned here yet.. Why do we have 3 Dem’s competing against each other? Is there multiple candidates from other parties?

SJO please plant some of that whimsical wisdom for me. I know your assessment will put a smile on my face.

    • > Why do we have 3 Dem’s competing against each other?

As Will Rogers said: “I don’t belong to an organized political party. I’m a Democrat”.

Democrats don’t know how to take turns.

On the other hand, Republicans ONLY know how to take turns, and since there’s never been a Republican incumbent, Republicans don’t know whose turn it is.

  6. Jack Slade here!

He learned his lesson when the PD followed him around and got a CHP to bag him for DUI. If they did the Mayor or one of their enemies on the Council it would have been apparent so they did the guy who helped them a lot just to make a Measure B statement. Ash wasn’t smart enough to get it. Still isn’t.

    • “Human caused global warming” is the biggest big lie of the modern age.

It is amazing how a handful of renegade scientist politicians “sold” this con to the world public without any serious scrutiny or opposition by the political class.

Thousands and thousands of scientists have expressed skepticism or questioned various premises of global warming, but the institutions of mass communication have ignored them, and in exceptional cases, demonized or suppressed them.

The drooling, mouth-breathing paid progressive activists from Greenpeace who accost and harass patrons at Whole Foods have never had a serious thought about science or the law of unintended consequences.

They accept, without question, the greedy self-serving premise that the solution to “global warming” is taxes.

The have never wondered if anyone actually knows what is the “correct” temperature for planet earth, who gets to decide it’s the correct temperature, and most ominously, what if the temperature “deciders” raised taxes too much in their crusade to end global warming . . . AND CAUSED IN ICE AGE.

Nope. Divinity school dropout All Gore and his band of vacant dunces have NEVER thought about this, or much of anything else, for that matter.

  7. Oh Ash Kalra and his pension for public transportation. Might it have anything to do with his drunk driving charge?

  8. Madison Nguyen
while in office was the subject of a recall effort by her district, the only reason she served her terms in office was because she was chuck reeds cronie. ( he covered for her and diverted the recall attempt)
why should we vote for her when her own district wants her out of office enough to recall her?

Madison Nguyen is currently one of the subjects of a law suite for making back room deals

  9. Ash has ignored the interests of the voters in district 2 choosing to spend most of his time
promoting crazy ideology like “meatless Monday” and his “Ban on Diet Soda ” that he tried to impose on the residents of D-2. ( the dictator of district-2)

he ignores crime, gang murders, drug houses, blight, homeless problems and the general decline of the quality of life for the residents of district-2 to spend time on his crack pot agendas

in the eight years he has been in office he has done absolutely nothing for the people he represented. most of the time he was in fact refusing to address crime & public safety issues because he doesn’t think it’s part of his job. (these tasks are beneath his dignity) seeing Ash’s personal ethics in action we now see why he was dismissed from the DA’s office

he was a bitter disappointment as city council person for district -2
we are glad to be rid of him! he doesn’t belong in politics or any level of government.
