11 to July 19, featuring 48 teams and a total of 104 matches played across 16 host cities. The opening match is June 11 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
Public safety agencies across the Bay Area are encouraging international visitors and local community members to take steps now to stay informed and safe.
To help community members and visitors navigate match week safely, Bay Area public safety partners are sharing “Know Before You Go” guidance that highlights travel planning, where to find verified updates, and how to get help quickly if conditions change.
“Hosting six FIFA World Cup matches at Levi’s Stadium is a major moment for our region, and we are proud to welcome visitors from around the world to Santa Clara County,” said Dana Reed, Director of the County of Santa Clara Office of Emergency Management. “We are building on the lessons learned from Super Bowl LX and strengthening the partnerships and communications systems that help keep people informed and safe. Planning and knowing where to find verified updates are simple steps that make a real difference during a high-visibility event.”
Visitors and residents are encouraged to plan ahead and use official, verified sources for information during World Cup match activity.
Key safety reminders include:
- Know your travel plan, including where you are staying, how you are getting to events, and alternate routes in case of delays
- Save emergency contacts ahead of time
- If you have an emergency, call 9-1-1
- If you do not have an emergency and need local information or services, call 2-1-1
- Expect changing conditions, including traffic, transit impacts, and weather variations across Bay Area microclimates
- Rely on official sources for updates and avoid sharing unverified information, rumors, or misinformation
During large events, people often move across county lines for hotels, fan events, dining, and transit. While visitors travel, alert systems remain jurisdiction-based. Public safety partners are encouraging everyone to sign up for emergency alerts in the counties and cities where they will be spending time.
The agencies published a Text FIFA26 to 888-777 to receive FIFA World Cup emergency alerts in Santa Clara County. These opt-in alerts may include urgent information about public safety issues, severe weather, traffic or transit disruptions, road closures, and other incidents affecting safety or travel.
In addition to local emergency alerts, visitors are encouraged to use FIFA’s official channels as supplemental sources of event-related information. Download the official FIFA app and join the FIFA World Cup WhatsApp channel. These channels provide additional ways to receive updates and reinforce the shared goal of delivering multilingual, verified information before, during and after an emergency.
“When you travel for a major event, your usual sources of information may not follow you, especially when you cross county lines,” said Tom Chin, Deputy Director of Emergency Management. “Signing up for local emergency alerts is one of the easiest ways to stay connected to trusted, time-sensitive updates about safety issues, weather, traffic and transit disruptions. We encourage visitors and residents alike to register for alerts based on where they will be staying and traveling throughout the Bay Area.”
Because FIFA World Cup 2026 is an international event, the county is prioritizing multilingual and accessible public information to support residents and visitors, including people with Access and Functional Needs.
FIFA-related emergency alerts and public safety messaging will be distributed in the County’s threshold languages: English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Tagalog. Additional visitor-facing languages will also be used for select FIFA public safety communications, including Turkish, German, Arabic, and French, to better support international travelers.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to review official “Know Before You Go” guidance and public safety resources on the county’s FIFA World Cup safety webpage, which serves as a central hub for verified information and partner resources: oem.santaclaracounty.gov/special-events/fifa-world-cup-2026-safety.
