Federal education officials said San Jose State students have allegedly been threatened, shunned, and made to feel unwelcome in classrooms because of their Jewish ancestry.

The high court ruling allows states to ban transgender student athletes from playing on girls’ and women’s teams, but doesn’t require it – which means that California and 22 other states can keep their current policies.

Citing Title IX, the historic half-century-old law that ended the male-dominated world of sports, federal education officials say San José State University discriminated against female athletes when it allowed a transgender athlete to compete on the women’s volleyball team.

SJSU, the University of Pennsylvania and the Massachusetts high school athletic association are cited as violators of President Trump's Feb. 5 executive order banning transgender athletes. The N.C.A.A. changed its position immediately, citing the President's order.

The case is believed to be the first prosecution of transgender domestic violence homicide in Santa Clara County. 

A federal judge on Monday ruled that the San Jose State volleyball player, who is at the center of a controversy over transgender athletes, can participate in a women’s volleyball conference tournament this week. An appeals court judge today rejected an appeal of that ruling.
