San José Unified School District voters had approved a $72 parcel tax, which provides approximately $5 million a year, in 2016. The tax expires June 30.
Investigators said Tayesha Knight wrote approximately 45 fraudulent checks totaling over $400,000 to herself, which she claimed were reimbursement for nonexistent services at Shallenberger Elementary School.
The coalition of students, parents and teachers wants San Jose schools to move toward mental health counseling and less-punitive responses for troubled students.
