In July 2025, a San Jose police officer shot and killed a heavily armed man dressed in military fatigues after he shot at officers.

In September 2025, Nizamuddin Mohammed was shot by police after he suddenly started stabbing his unarmed roommate.

Police said Robert Rivera Jr.’s refusal to drop his gun, and deliberate motion pointing his firearm in the direction of officers made clear his intent that night was ‘to commit suicide by cop.’

Roberto Rivera, 50, of San Jose, died from multiple gunshot wounds Monday morning at a local hospital. An adult male who had been shot by Rivera remained in critical condition.

The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office announced this week that five officers who shot and killed a domestic violence suspect in Redwood City in November will not be charged in the case. Abran Gutierrez, 36, died in the shooting on Nov. 15 on El Camino Real, a main thoroughfare in the city, near the intersection with Maple Street, police and prosecutors said.

Jurors in the U.S. District Court in San Jose rejected claims by the widow of Jacob Dominguez that San Jose Police Officer Michael Pina had violated the shooting victim's Fourth and 14th Amendment rights.

Robert Seth Carter, 32, was shot and killed on Jan. 19 after he unsuccessfully attempted to carjack someone on Monroe Street and then T-boned another car while armed in the intersection of Park Avenue and W. Hedding Street.
