There are two options to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in San Jose on May 3: a parade and community festival in East San Jose beginning at 10am and a downtown Cinco de Mayo festival at Plaza de Cesar Chavez beginning at 11 am.

San Jose legislators Sen. Dave Cortese and Assemblymember Ash Kalra called shutting down highway access during multicultural celebrations like Cinco de Mayo racist targeting and unconstitutional.

Cinco de Mayo won’t be quite the extravaganza it normally is this year. San Jose’s annual parade and festival has been canceled. Mounting costs and a lack of cooperation from the city were reasons cited for the cancellation, according to the American GI Forum, a veterans group that puts on the celebration.
