In the worst-hit counties, hospitals are sending critically ill patients elsewhere. Others are keeping ICU patients in crowded ER wards.

These chemicals are everywhere. They last forever. They’re expensive to get rid of. And many Californians don’t know they’re drinking them.

The goal is to increase high-capacity testing and end a backlog that, at times, has left people waiting as many as 12 days to receive results. 

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a new website created with Alphabet’s subsidiary Verily that will provide screening and testing support.
