Obdulia Banuelos-Esparza avoids jail time and will have to pay $40,000 in restitution in a plea bargaining deal for demanding cash from a security firm in exchange for a fairgrounds contract.

Omar Torres’ attorney affirmed that the first-term council member has engaged in sexually explicit social media activities revealed in graphic detail in an affidavit filed in connection with search warrants on Torres’ property.

Prosecutors say that Obdulia Banuelos-Esparza of San Jose solicited and accepted up to thousands of dollars each month from the owner of a Bay Area security firm, in exchange for her recommendation that the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds Management Corporation contract with the security company.

William Gerry, a former San Jose city inspector, was convicted of extorting bribes and molesting children.
