Everyone seems to be looking at the new City Hall.  Mary Anne Ostrom of the Mercury News took a look at the inspirations for the building, Tom applauded the city government coming back downtown and Jude provided links back to his articles on the design.  Heck, even DeCinzo turned his eyes to the new City Hall.

Recently, I’ve been thinking about the legacy that one generation leaves to another.

It’s been quiet around here.  Too quiet, even by summer vacation standards.  The Mayor is apparently vacationing and too busy to attend the inauguration of the first Latino mayor in 130 years.  The City Council seems busy moving into their new offices.

No truth to the rumors that the tree was used to print the new Merc.

Sometimes, it’s hard to tell one week from the next, even when there’s an election, a new city hall and $438,000 goes missing.  Let’s take a look at a slice of some news stories for this week.

I found the reaction to my posting last week interesting.  After all, I’m just pointing to news.  I didn’t expect it to stir up so many passions.  Yes, I featured stories from the Silicon Valley Community Newspapers, but then, they’re the first news outlet to regularly feature our stuff.

There’s a new blog in town, so I’d like to officially welcome Willow Glen Extra to the neighborhood.  As Irene Kew writes in the Willow Glen Resident, there’s a Willow Glen resident who’s been blogging for a few months.

Here at San Jose Inside, we feel well compensated by all the comments we get, so we feel no need to vote ourselves a raise.  I’m still bringing you the news in review at the same low price I was when we started this site.  Although, since I think of this column as art, I was gratified to read Mark de la Vina’s article in the Mercury that arts funding may be increased.  Art or not, here’s the rest of the news.

After reading all of the discussions about anonymous postings recently, I was tempted to not tell anyone my real identity when I wrote this column.  Then I remembered that it’s at the top of the page.  Oh well.

What a week it’s been.  I was happy to take last week off to please my readers, but it’s good to get back to the news.  So, away we go…

Sometimes we get good ideas from comments.  Sometimes we get them directly from readers sending us e-mails.  A handful of you asked us to reprint the Mayor Gonzales letter which the Mercury News just excerpted.  I’m happy to oblige since that means I don’t have to write much this week.

Many people were interested in John’s article last week about free iPods.  In fact, many were incensed that the FAA was spending so much money on such a frivolous program.  Sure, those iPods are pretty popular, but I just wanted to make sure it was stated some place on the site: John makes his columns up.
