Sergio Jimenez Wins Re-Election in San Jose’s District 2

Councilman Sergio Jimenez fended off a conservative challenger in San Jose’s District 2, according to election returns with 100 precincts reporting.

Results posted on the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters website show that Jimenez won a second term to the South San Jose seat with 56 percent of the vote.

That means no runoff—no more head-to-head match-ups with Jonathan Fleming, a tax-averse Republican who culled support from the business community to overthrow a seat that has been a reliable vote for labor for the past decade-and-a-half.

  1. It’s too bad. Fleming was the change we needed. Jimenez is more of the same. Lots of talk, no action.

  2. D2 could have chosen reason, instead it embraced hate. Buckle up for more homeless, more evictions, more misery. D2 youve earned it.

  3. Congrats, Sergio! He’s on the right path — the district doesn’t need any more Trump apologists like Fleming.

  4. All of you misguided souls (Sergio voters) will see the light in time. Unfortunately it will be WAY too late. Wait and see. Wait and see, Wait and see. You’ll soon wish you could take back your vote and gain control of your brain.

  5. It’s going to be a long 4 years. Hopefully I will be out of San Jose and CA way before that. Sergio can SAY some of the right things about unity in D2, but he has not been able to DO what it takes to accomplish that. If history is a predictor, we can expect that to continue. Ultimately those who did not get out to vote will reap the consequences. Expect to continue paying more in taxes to receive less services.

  6. Quite a late reply, but with COVID on the loose, was unable too. I realize as a supporter of Mr. Fleming, ones thought may be that he would bring about change. As he is a supporter of Trump, and has the same thought process, it is best that Sergio win. The last thing your district needs is another liar. I know from personal experience. If Mr. Fleming wants you to believe something, he will talk over you, give you the runaround, and by the time he is done, you’re either confused or exhausted from listening to him. How can a person state he was hit by a drunk driver, rehabilitating for years, taking in homeless people, yet out at dinner with he, his wife and their daughter, he and his wife were drinking, talking about homeless (in a negative way, not helping) and he took 4 homeless people in(?), then after dinner put their young (toddler) daughter into their vehicle and drove home. He was hit and severely injured by a drunk driver? Hypocritical if you ask me. Business owner? Check your candidates closely San Jose, do your due diligence. What if Mr. Fleming, after drinking at the restaurant, severely disabled or even killed his daughter? Would anyone have backed him then? Would anyone have backed Mr. Fleming if they knew his blatant disregard for his daughter?
