  1. It’s time to call out NBC Bay Area!

    While all of the major TV networks of the region tout themselves as “Bay Area” newstations (CBS 5, ABC 7, etc.), those located in San Francisco are proud to be located in that city: ABC 7 with their Embarcadero/Bay Bridge backdrop, KRON 4 with its Golden Gate Bridge/SF collage, CBS 5 pretty much the same, even FOX 2.  But what about NBC Bay Area, located in San Jose?  If you moved to the Bay Area last week, you would also think that NBC Bay Area was also located in San Francisco.  “down in San Jose…down at The Farm (Stanford U.)…at city hall tonight (SF city hall that is).”  Even their live TV cams show vista’s of SF.  COME ON NBC BAY AREA!

    You’re located on North First Street, and your roots are in downtown San Jose.  Be proud to be a San Jose newstation, and stop pretending to be located in SF!  How about some backdrops of Plaza de Cesar Chavez, The Fairmont, HP Pavilion, etc.  Some live TV cams from various points in SJ/Silicon Valley.  In other words, SHOW A LITTLE SAN JOSE PRIDE!

  2. SF Chronicle, 1/6/10, page DC-2.

    “Affiliated Media Inc., the holding company for the MediaNews Group family of newspapers that includes the San Jose Mercury News…said Friday that it plans to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

    The company said it would file a “prepackaged” plan already approved by lenders, which should allow it to emerge from bankruptcy more quickly. A date for the filing hasn’t been announced, but the company said it would be in the near future.

    Company management and newspaper operations, employees and vendors won’t be affected by the holding company’s restructuring, MediaNews Group Chairman and CEO William Dean Singleton said….”

    =====

    The shareholders will take a hit of up to 50% loss because their stock values will be watered down to pay off bondholders.

    Retired employees of the Mercury News may lose their pensions.

    Union contracts may be thrown out the window in a deal between management and the bankruptcy court.

    Pension plans and employment plans for existing employees will obviously take a hit, notwithstanding vague claims otherwise.

    =====

    The single most racially-tinged and divisive force in San Jose today may have to reform its ways and report the news, finally.

    • Sounds to me like cosmic justice.

      In addition to being politically bankrupt and intellectually bankrupt, the Merc is now financially bankrupt.

      A fitting fate for a gang of lunatics who murder innocent trees and then mutilate their lifeless bodies and desecrated them with obscene and mendacious global warming graffiti.  And then they piously advocate the planting of more trees to atone for “human caused global warming” caused by other people.

  3. The San Jose Mercury is a disgrace.

    I had a sales rep call me at home last week and ask if I would like to renew my subscription I had canceled years ago.

    I told her I would not due to the poor reporting, especially the constant one sided hit pieces against the police department. I told her the Mercury was reckless and irresponsible and had lost any journalistic objectivity. I told her it was wrong for the Mercury to push for all police reports be made public and endangering victims so the Mercury could try and sell a few more papers.

    Her response surprised me. Instead of trying to twist my arm into getting a subscription, she replied my response was a common complaint she heard and she agreed with my position. She said the management of the Mercury ignores these complaints and blames falling subscriptions on the internet.

    Good riddance to the Mercury in it’s current form.

      > I told her I would not due to the poor reporting, especially the constant one sided hit pieces against the police department. I told her the Mercury was reckless and irresponsible and had lost any journalistic objectivity.

      Egad!

      What a horrible, horrible job.  Proselytizing for the Merc!

      I think I would rather butcher cattle, pluck chickens, or muck out cesspools.

  4. All these drive bys against Dale is making him San Jose’s anti hero.

    Wonder if this is all the work of CP?

    Chris is the Mr Claggert reacting towards Dale if he was the Billy Budd of SJI

  5. Rather than hurling insults at Mr. Warner from behind a ceaselessly changing series of pseudonyms, you might try having a good-faith discussion with him and make a genuine attempt to learn something about what he thinks. You might discover that he and millions of other Americans whose opinions you reflexively dismiss, are not the demons you imagine them to be.

  6. Mr. Warner might accurately be characterized as Not Politically Correct.

    Hence, those “hurling insults at Mr. Warner from behind a ceaselessly changing series of pseudonyms” might very likely be persons generally characterized as Politically Correct.

    Now, what do we know about the thought processes and analytical abilities of persons who are “Politically Correct”?

    Would you look to a Politically Correct person for fresh insights and innovating thinking and a good grasp of reality?

    Silly question.  Of course not.

    • > Why do I have to answer these difficult questions to post to SJI?

      You got caught in the Conservative filter.

      Try giving it three of four really stupid answers and it will kick you into the Liberal filter where it will accept any stupid answer.

  7. Want to pile the kids in the car and go up and play in the snow on Mt. Hamilton? Forget it. The killjoy CHP will turn you around before you reach the snowline. Better just stay in town. Take the kids to the mall. Buy a bunch of crap you don’t need. Contribute to the economy. It’s your duty, komrades.
