Pyle’s Audit Request Denied at Rules

In one of her final requests as a San Jose councilmember, Nancy Pyle asked the Rules and Open Govt. committee on Wednesday to let the City Council discuss an audit regarding staffing levels and employee bumping to different positions due to layoffs, resignations and retirements.

The committee told her to kick rocks.

Pyle, whose last meeting will be Dec. 18 after serving two terms on the council for District 10, was surprised the committee would not grant her request.

“As someone who has been on the council for eight years, I would have liked to make some observations about the staffing inadequacies,” she said.

Pyle added that the reason for denying her request could be because Mayor Chuck Reed wants a clearer majority to implement new policies on bumping—policies that would be adamantly opposed by public employee unions. Her successor, Johnny Khamis, is far more conservative on financial issues and publicly supported pension reform through Measure B, while Pyle did not.

Councilmember Pierluigi Oliverio, who sits on the Rules committee as well as the Public Safety, Finance and Strategic Support committee, which first approved the audit’s consideration by council in January, said that the report wasn’t time sensitive, and there is already plenty on the next two weeks’ agendas, including developer agreements and a potential ban on EPS to-go boxes at restaurants.

“Rather than rush a dialogue, have it in January,” Oliverio said. He added, “The voters in Almaden have chosen to have one less voice the next four years” opposing Reed’ and the council majority’s fiscal agenda.

While no vote can take place on accepting the audit’s findings, Pyle does have the opportunity to bring it up for discussion at council because it was an item on the Rules agenda.

  1. What’s the story here?  She’s a lame duck.  If this were a certain school board on the East Side, we’d be reading an article about how the discussion should wait for the Pyle’s replacement and blah, blah, blah.

  2. Don’t you just love it when PO shows his true colors and distain for fellow council members who do not vote along the Council Clown Chucks way.  And of course his court jesters Constant, Sam, Rose and Madison.  I Feel sorry for Ash and Chu having to sit on the council feeling the hatred and knowing their great ideas will fall on deaf ears.

As for you PO, Nancy has done more great things for this city in 8 years than you will achieve in a life time.  I am proud of the fact that she did not give in to all of the lies you spit out.

Until Chuck, you and the jesters are gone this once great city will never recover.

Thank you Nancy for all your hard work.  You will be missed.

  3. Nancy Pyle is a class act. She understands the decorum of her office, and has always spoken respectfully, especially with those whom she has disagreed. Pierluigi Oliverio and Pete Constant are the antithesis of Nancy Pyle. They are smarmy, classless, condescending, fraudulent, and underhanded as demonstrated with their decision in the Rules and Open Government Committee to deny Councilmember Pyle’s request. She is still a member of the city council and has earned the right to speak on a topic.

On another note, I hope SJI keeps investigating the collusion between the editorial board of the Mercury, and the City of San Jose Administration of what to print regarding which issues and candidates. This is our own version of a politburo and needs to be fully exposed. Please keep digging into this SJI, this is the tip of the iceberg.
