By the Numbers: Immigrants and Immigration Enforcement

President Trump’s recent threats to launch mass ICE raids and end the Dreamer program caused widespread panic in Santa Clara County. In light of the immigration issues dominating the headlines these past couple of weeks, here’s a rundown of key data about immigration in Silicon Valley and beyond.

Number of volunteers for Santa Clara County’s Rapid Response Network, a 24-hour hotline that dispatches people to observe and document reported ICE raids. Similar hotlines have cropped up around the country, with 25 up and running in California alone.

The estimated number of undocumented immigrants who call Santa Clara County home.

The number of Santa Clara County recipients of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals), an Obama-era policy granting two-year deportation waivers and work permits for undocumented immigrants who were brought to the country as children.

The decrease in total number of unauthorized immigrants in the United States, from 12.2 million undocumented immigrants in 2007 to 10.5 million in 2017.

The number of undocumented immigrants granted amnesty under President Reagan. Last week, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo said America needs a similar reform bill today. “We have to find a path to citizenship and legal status for the undocumented immigrants who face the daily threat of deportation at any moment,” he said.

  1. So, what’s the number of unaccompanied minors brought into the U.S. illegally and placed in foster homes in San Jose?

What percent of the unaccompanied minors placed in San Jose are victims of child abuse or pedophilia?

    Who’s checking?

  2. How much do “non-profits” like Catholic Charities get paid for placing unaccompanied minors brought into the U.S. illegally into foster homes in San Jose or Santa Clara County?

Have there been any arrests or prosecutions for child abuse or pedophilia involving persons who participated in bringing unaccompanied minors illegally into the United States?

  3. Your figures make no sense , if there are 200,000 illegals in Santa Clara county alone there must be 25-30 million living in the country. 4-5 million or more in California. Exactly why the census must ask whether they are a citizen or not.

  4. The current migration at our border is costing taxpayers a Kings ransom ($17,000 per day ABC news.) Fleeing persecution? or fleeing for freebies? they sure don’t stay in Mexico when they reach “safety” or ask or offered political asylum in Mexico. Why? because Mexico will give them NOTHING. So they make the long journey to our border, our generous Democrats, and our tax dollars.

We have Democrat / Socialist / Activists in the Northern Triangle of South America & Mexico; even as you read this instructing the populations to make sure you bring your children and use the the magic words…..”credible fear.” Mexico recently arrested two socialist activists who were instrumental in the organizing of prior caravans,

Then you have a Democrat House saying the crisis is “manufactured” as literally thousands attack our border daily? The crisis IS manufactured…by the Democrats themselves. Make no mistake about this, Democrats want this to happen and never stop. They will with hold border security support allowing as many illegal aliens to enter the country as possible overwhelming our BP & ICE before assisting in border security (if ever.)

To Democrats/Socialists programs like Temporary Protective Status (TPS) or Deferred Action for Childhood arrivals (DACA) are permanent programs. There is nothing “temporary or deferred” about these programs to Democrats. These programs are designed to admit refugees (usually from the third world) then Democrats fight to keep them here permanently using the charge of racism, religion, guilt, against anyone opposed. Simple formula works great.

  5. We already have a lawful a path to citizenship and legal status for illegal aliens; let them use our existing system, and cease from breaking our nation’s laws.

+ It’s reprehensible that democrats in Congress are opposed to Homeland Security on our southern Border.
    /Bravo, President Trump!

  6. THE STAMPEDE AT OUR SOUTHERN BORDER:

THE LIE OF TPS / DACA:

  7. Hi Nicholas, thanks for the data. Here’s some more #s for your readers’ consideration. From Wash Examiner.

Illegal immigration costs taxpayers in all 50 states a total of $89 billion, and California, pays the most at $23 billion, according to a new map of the costs.

The website HowMuch.net, working with figures from the Federation for American Immigration Reform, found that Californians pay more than twice as much for illegal immigrants than the next closest state, Texas, where the price tag is $11 billion.

The costs cover added expenditures for education, welfare, law enforcement, and medical care.

When federal costs are included, the price tag nationally soars to $135 billion a year.

FAIR’s data also includes the offset of taxes paid by illegal immigrants, though the numbers are much lower. In the state and local column, they are $3.5 billion. Nationally they are $15 billion.

Overall, costs associated with illegal immigrants is much higher for state and local governments than the federal government. States pay $89 billion, Uncle Sam $46 billion.

The states paying the most to care for illegals:

    1. California – $23,038,125,353

    2. Texas – $10,994,614,550

    3. New York – $7,489,141,357

    4. Florida – $6,290,429,108

    5. New Jersey – $4,466,838,574

    6. Illinois – $3,220,767,517

    7. Georgia – $2,487,719,503

    8. North Carolina – $2,437,965,113

    9. Maryland – $2,378,996,947

    10. Arizona – $2,314,131,964

  8. Enough about immigration. This is a lie and people are being paid by President Trump to come to the border. This is all Republicans can talk about so they don’t have to talk how he is bankrupting our country and how he refuses to help people where there is flooding and fires. Write about something other than fake immigration news.

  9. Reagan and Bush Sr made a huge mess of Central America back in the 80s and 90s. This immigration situation is one of the effects of that mess. We’re now paying the piper. In Ronnie’s words, it has finally trickled down.

Remember that saying, that a butterfly flapping its wings on one side of the world can cause a hurricane on the other.

    • > Reagan and Bush Sr made a huge mess of Central America back in the 80s and 90s. This immigration situation is one of the effects of that mess. We’re now paying the piper.

President Ronald Reagan left office in 1989. That’s THIRTY YEARS ago.

President George H. W. Bush left office in 1993, That;s TWENTY-SIX YEARS ago. Over a QUARTER OF A CENTURY!

And Democrats have been helpless? ! ! Obama’s “Hope and Change” really DIDN’T change anything? Who knew?

If Democrats can’t DO anything, and aren’t responsible for anything, and aren’t ACCOUNTABLE for anything, then what good are they?

Vote for Bernie so Democrats can say thirty years from now “IT’S NOT HIS FAULT!” ?

If we DON’T elect Bernie, it WON’T be his fault . . . FOR SURE!!!

    • LOL they LOVE to blame America. That was a long time ago. So it took them 40 years to find America? the Mexican police arrested the criminals instrumental in organizing the caravans and froze the bank accounts of many more. Maybe some will believe your lies.

  10. Oh come on SCCRAZY,
Central America has been a mess since before Columbus arrived, just not as much canniblism going on these days.

  11. Well, I guess if you’re exempt from paying U.S. taxes, it just makes sense that you’re exempt from obeying U.S. laws, too.

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/bishop-migrants-border-trump-us-texas-protest-a8979881.html

Arguably, Bishop Seitz might be deemed a citizen of that sovereign entity known as “The Vatican”, but I guess the walls of his country are just too tall and forbidding to permit virtue signalling publicity stunts, which U.S. Democrats all too eagerly welcome and endorse.

Nothing in the “news story” to suggest that the children seeking asylum were fleeing abuse or sexual molestation by churchmen in their countries of origin. It’s altogether possible that they would be safer where they came from.

  12. 200,000 is more than 10% of Santa Clara County’s current population.
Imagine if we could reduce the population of our County by 10%… what would that do for home prices? Make them affordable? What would it do for Homelessness? What would it do for traffic? What would it do to the cost of Water & Electricity? The cost of food & services, the cost of education, the cost of emergency services? The list goes on.

  13. Why does the mayor of San Jose care so much about citizens of another country. They did not elect him and he was not elected to represent them. He was elected by SJ citizens to protect and serve SJ citizens, not Honduras citizens. Its fine if he wants to personally help them on his personal time and with his personal money, but he was not elected Mayor of SJ for that purpose. Would someone please tell him?

  14. The so-called Rapid Response took over a week to return a call. Not very rapid! Where did the $500,000 from the Board of Supervisors go?
It is a waste of our tax dollars.
