Cortese Cries Foul Over Herhold Endorsement

Says He Has Spunk AND Memorized Pandori’s Book

City Councilman and mayoral candidate David Cortese filed an official complaint with Mercury News Publisher George Riggs on Wednesday in an effort to force columnist Scott Herhold to print a retraction to his column supporting Michael Mulcahy for mayor.

In his complaint, Councilman Cortese claims that he has just as much, if not more spunk than Mr. Mulcahy and definitely has a better working knowledge of Mr. Pandori’s book—these, seemingly, the two utmost qualities Mr. Herhold found for supporting his choice for San Jose’s Mayor.

“I think that if Mr. Herhold took the time to grill Dave [Cortese] on the information contained in Mr. Pandori’s book,” said one supporter, “then he would understand that Dave has memorized the information and is therefore, best qualified to be mayor.”

The Cortese campaign has also challenged Mr. Pandori to a contest – one that will measure each candidate’s knowledge of the specifics in “A Better San Jose.”  “Just because he wrote it doesn’t mean he has a better grip on the information contained in it,” stated a recent Cortese press release.

The Cortese campaign also cited several character witnesses who testified to his spunky nature.  Agnes Farnsworth, Cortese’s 5th grade teacher and Dr. Helen Needleman, the Cortese family doctor, have been handing out sworn affidavits that Mr. Cortese was given Ritalin as a child to dull his spunkiness.

“I have never seen a spunkier person,” said Ms. Farnsworth.  “In fact I don’t even know many puppies that can out-spunk David.”

Several inside sources say that Herhold’s was Cortese’s most sought after endorsement.  “It killed David when Scott came out for Mulcahy,” said one campaign volunteer.  “Not only did he rub Pandori’s book all over his body like suggested, he put it in a blender and drank it for breakfast.”

  1. Thanks for the mental image of Cortese rubbing the book all over his body. This is the perfect companion article to Scott Herhold’s article. You would think that was written by a 16 year old girl (his article – not yours!)

  2. “…I don’t even know many puppies that can out-spunk David.”  John you kill me.  Thanks for starting my Friday off with a good laugh.  I tried drinking Pandori’s book for breakfast.  It put hair on my chest and raised my IQ 11 points.

  3. Anybody want to buy a ticket to the next Chamber COMPAC Barbeque? I hear they’re going real cheap this year.
FYI-Mike Fox Jr. will NOT be in charge of printing the invitations.

  4. “. . .Cortese also claimed he is better looking than Mulcahy, does a better impression of Gavin Newsome and is willing to erase from his resume his tenure as a public official and run as a nonpolitician.”

  5. I think we should commend the Campaign Ethics Commission in San Jose for wanting to clean up things.  It is very smart to have citizens serve on these campaign commissions.  Believe it or not, the Council Member in charge of it in Santa Clara is also running for Mayor in Santa Clara insists that no citizens need serve on the campaign committee there.  Only candidates for office, according to Mr. Matthews are qualified to sit on the campagin ethics commission there.  Imagine that.  In San Jose, you could Dave, Chuck, Mulchary, and others serve on the ethics commission.  No doubt under the Matthews rule, Pat Dando would be the executive director of it.

  6. Is there a staff position for chief of spunk?  If a candidate gets elected mayor and does not have spunk I have this cousin who is not too smart but has more spunk than any person I have ever seen.  She has been out of work since they closed down the old nuclear waste dump in Thornton.  Just think we could then elect a mayor for their ideas and experience and not have to worry about the spunk thing.  I also have this brother inlaw who is also out of work. He is very good looking but lazy.  If you could find a position at city hall for him, I could get my spare bedroom back.  In fact, if a candidates would hire one of them I’ll throw the other in for free.

  7. All of this Mulcahy vs. Pandori stuff is fine for amusement but the reality of the situation is that they will most likely cancel each other out of the run-off.
One of the main reasons Mulcahy entered the race was that he was uncomfortable with the three candidates who preceded him. I am sure Pandori who followed shortly afterwards felt the same way. These two need to be commended for standing up and trying to make a difference.
You can say what you want about both of them but each in their own manner have brought a refreshing message to the table. Its no surprise that those organizations that bothered to consider all of the candidates endorsed the two outsiders. (mercury, resident, metro, COC).
My personal feeling is that neither of the council members deserve my vote because they did not do enough to stop the scandals and costly decisions that have continued over the past two terms. It shows a lack of leadership and a whole lot of posturing to protect their collective political careers. I dont want to have to vote for them and hopefully enough people will see it that way and surprise me.

  8. Jerry #9, Will you vote for Pandori or Mulcahy for mayor?  What council district are you from? Is their a council seat open. If so who are you voting for? I’m with you we need a change.

  9. You should change the URL of this website to http://www.thereisonlypandori.com.  It just kills you guys the Merc columnist understands that it takes more than some ideas to lead a big city.  It takes some intangibles, some charisma, some ability to get others on board.  Ideas abound, Mulcahy has the other qualities too.  Vote for the only outsider with a legit chance to win.  Mulcahy.

And give me a break on Pandori’s book.  I read it.  The ideas are not exactly awe inspiring or innovative.  For the most part, it’s just a compilation of existing documents, plans and ideas.  Just because he “wrote a book” he’s brilliant???  Anybody elected would know we need to improve neighborhoods, fight gangs and have better parks.  Genius.  Now, his endowment idea might be original, but how can you take 1% of the general fund when there’s already a deficit.  A vote for Pandori is a vote for Cindy.

  10. 11 – Read it again. And again. Everybody in the city should read it. It contains a very rare commodity among our elected officials and our candidates—common sense. Problems are outlined and solutions given. Issues are addressed without spin. Here’s the problem, here’s the soultion. Don’t like it? Lets work on it together.
Vote for the same old thing or vote for someone with vision beyond on just their own neighborhood.
A vote for Cindy is taking away a vote for David.

  11. KPIX has released its re-do poll and…..
Chavez 25%, Cortese 18% …PANDORI 17%, Reed 14% and Milcahy 12%…looks more likely that #2 in the run off maybe my guy. Off to walk precincts, time is awasting.

    Anne Stahr

  12. Just in case you want to see the actual words, here is the story from KPIX…

“With just four days to go until the election, the CBS 5 poll shows Chavez gets 25% of the vote. She’s followed by Dave Cortese at 18%, David Pandori at 17%, Chuck Reed with 14% and Mike Mulcahy getting 12%.”

    Statistical tie for 2nd.

    Anne Stahr

  13. #11,

A vote for Pandori is NOT a vote Chavez.

Chavez cannot win.  There are too many ABC voters what will never switch to Chavez in the run-off.

This is a vote to see who is in the run-off with Chavez and will ultimately be declared the winner in November.

  14. Seems like it’s time for Mulcahy to decide if he really wants to change SJ government or help Cindy win. If he throws his support to David it’s a whole new ballgame (with or without a stadium.)
If he doesn’t, David’s surge in the polls makes him the likely #2 and Cindy’s worst nightmare.
Hang on, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

  15. #14 Anne – Is that really true? When is it being released?!

#9 Jerry – I agree with you wholeheartedly on your post. Is is great that we have Mulcahy and Pandori willing to throw their hats in the ring and I hope that they don’t cancel each other out and at least one makes the runoff. Both would be fantastic!

#11 “Anybody elected would know we need to improve neighborhoods, fight gangs and have better parks.” Sure, that is why we don’t have a gang problem and the Guadalupe River Park is totally finished. You give our elected officials way too much credit. Explain how a vote for Pandori is a vote for Cindy?! I can understand saying that Pandori/Mulcahy will cancel each other out but a vote for Cindy?

  16. The fact that Cortese would claim to have more “spunk” than anyone in the campaign is a complete joke. I’ve been to several of the mayoral debates and Cortese is consistently the runaway victor in the “most boring public speaker” category. Also based on watching the debates, I understand Mr. Herhold’s endorsement for Mulcahy. Pandori and Mulcahy consistently make the best points and arguments, but Pandori does so in a whiny “me against the counsil” sort of way. Mulcahy has confidence and those intangible leadership qualities that make the listener believe that he will be able to accomplish his platform goals and make the most progress for the city of San Jose. I am voting Mulcahy. Not only does he have the best plan (instead of writing a book he’s published many white papers describing his ideas. You can find them at solutionsforsanjose.com), but the leadership abilities to back it up and bring real improvement.

  17. The poll was done after the Chamber Mailings and before it resulted in a “violation of the law”.

Cindy and Pandori are surging at the right time.  Cortese is trying to hold on, Reed is fading—as predicted—and Mulcahy still hasn’t found a stride that is comfortable

We still have four days left—anything can happen, but Cindy has been subject to the most attacks, yet still comes out ahead.

More importantly, she has run a good, decent, and honorable campaign.  When others threw mud, she did not engage.

She had a consistent message and was the only candidate that talked about real issues affecting voters.  The other four tripped over-themselves being the most holier than thou.

The game is the same as when we started, Cindy v. whoever emerges among the staid white guys in the race.

Then we get to do it all over again.  Does anybody agree that we should adopt the British election system and limit campaigning to a month?

But, then again, what would we consultants do for the other 11 months of the year?

  18. 19. JMoC:

You are correct that Mike Fox Sr. blew a gasket over the COMPAC mailers. However…and this is where it gets interesting…it was Mike Fox Jr. who chairs COMPAC and was the driving force behind the mailers. Basically the father is protesting the actions of the son.

Regarding the KPIX poll here’s a creative bit of butt-covering:
“…Pandori – who has risen in the polls following his endorsement by the San Jose Mercury News.”
Yeah, it also helps IF YOU INCLUDE HIM IN YOUR #@^*ing POLL!!!

  19. #12.  Now is the time for us to unite and put our differences aside.  In light of the latest poll I hope we can work together to bump Cortese out of the running and beat Chavez in Nov.  Michael has an opportunity to put Pandori in the drivers seat and turn this city around.  I hope Michael will remember when Regan was slow to throw his support to Ford, Carter was able to beat him.  We can not do this without him!  I am off to walk the districts to do what little I can to rid this city of the Gonzo-Chavez regime.

  20. Guys, keep in mind that the only reason Scott Herhold endorsed Mulcahy is because Scott was the fisrt person to suggest Mulcahy run for mayor. Some of you may recall the article, it ran about 6 to 9 months ago. Scott wants to able to sit down one day and tell his children, and grandchildren how he almost single handily got Mulcahy elected. Of course he’s going to endorse him! He’d be crazy not to. Keep dreaming Scott…

  21. #23- “The fact that Cortese would claim to have more “spunk” than anyone in the campaign is a complete joke.”

Weird, it’s almost as if it were a joke.. You seem easy to sway.  You sure you don’t want to read the book?

  22. …..I head about city workers getting involved in campaigns for others…do we know they are doing it…any rumors or memos there….

just head someone trying to use the city for a candidate…anyone know about this?

  23. Welcome to Friday and thanks John.  We need these pieces to take the edge off all the screaming and shouting the past few weeks.  By the time we get the next serious blog the election will be here and those of us who haven’t voted absentee will have our chance to select two candidates to run for mayor. Good luck to everyone.

  24. #35: Congratulations on the new home.

If “selling” means giving away $4 million for a car race or $75 million to Lew Wolff for a soccer stadium, then I’ll keep my money on Pandori.

We don’t need any more corporate giveaways.  Wouldn’t you rather have your new property tax bill go towards parks, traffic improvements and fighting crime on the east side?

  25. #24 – Cindy’s run an honest campaign?  Do you really think Campos and Pyle conjured up the Cortese scandal on their own?  Oh please.

#23 – Sure Mulcahy has confidence – he reads from a script!  It’s like he’s reliving his performances with the CMT!

#13 – Who on the 2007 City Council would want to play with Pandori as Mayor? What work do you think would actually get done – he’s too abrasive and divisive council but good for a future DA.

  26. #35, Sorry if you’ve mentioned it elsewhere, but who are you supporting for Mayor?

I’ve attended 2 debate forums and listened to 2 more.  I know Cindy and David P. fairly well, Cortese and Reed slightly and Michael Mulcahy not at all.  Of the five in order of preference, my choice would be Pandori, Mulcahy, unenthusiastically for Cortese, next Reed, and a no vote for Cindy.

My order has nothing to do with who I personally like best.  Actually Cindy, who I am strongly opposed to, is the most pleasant of the five.

I’m supporting Pandori because he does seem to be the best big picture thinker and also because I think he or Mulcahy are the only two who have a chance to beat Chavez in a run-off.

  27. #37

Do you have any idea what you are talking about, or are you a typical voter?

You said: Wouldn’t you rather have your new property tax bill go towards parks, traffic improvements and fighting crime on the east side?

While those are, mostly, laudable goals why do you discriminate against the rest of the city by only having the police concentrate on the East Side?  If you knew what you were talking about then you would know that the crime rate on the East side is not significantly different than the rest of the city as a whole.  Sure, certain pockets all over the city have spikes in the crime rate, and that is where the police should concentrate their efforts.
    http://www.sjpd.org/

Please do not bother to vote, or talk in public, until you know what you are talking about.

  28. Based on the fact that four of the five major mayoral candidates have condemmed the Chamber of Commerce political hit piece on Cindy Chavez I think it’s time for Pat Dando and her senior staff to hang it up at the Chamber and depart.  This would include Fox jr.  Hopefully the Chamber will have a total house cleaning and I can imagine the fine for the piece would be substantial.  Cindy isn’t my candidate but that certainly is no way to go about business.

  29. #32:

There will be no more “play” at city hall when Pandori is mayor.  The “abrasive” smear is a ruse and we all have seen far too much cooperation on too many bad ideas at city hall.  Pandori will lead with a better plan.

How does Pandori go from 0 to 17%, tying for 2nd, in only 3 months with no lobbyists, developers, or unions backing him?  This is the definition of a grassroots campaign on fire.  All other candidates have had months longer to campaign.  You can’t gain that many percentage points in that short of time if you are abrasive.

Think about it, when we add Liccardo and Constant we are going to need to keep Reed and Cortese on council to help counter balance the Campos, Pyle, Williams labour/lobbyists team.

  30. I received an invite to Mulcahy’s election night party at the S.J. Hilton. The day after it was released in the paper the engineers union announced they were striking. None of the other downtown hotels are affected. In fact there was no impass between the hotel and the workers. Seems like dirty pool to me. Naturally it is not politically correct to walk the line so it will be somewhere else. I wonder if all the neighborhoods and the teachers and everyone else who supports the Cindy camp realizes where her allegiances lie. This is an underhanded attempt to sabotage the Mulcahy camp. Go Chamber of Commerce.

  31. Dan #40—Political hit piece??

It says on the front: “Vice Mayor Cindy Chavez claimed she didn’t know about the $4million Grand Prix deal until the day before the vote.  Emails from her office prove that she and the Mayor had numerous private meetings with Grand Prix sponsors months before it became public.”  Those statements are absolutely, positively 100% true.  So, do you define a “hit piece” as a truthful lethal blow that “hits” home?

The back side says: ” Vice Mayor Cindy Chavez’ and Mayor Gonzales’ backroom deals and secret meetings are costing taxpayers millions—like $4million for the Grand Prix and $11.25 million for the Norcal garbage contract.  The numbers keep adding up.  That’s money that could have been spent on parks, public safety and libraries.”  Also 100% true.

What’s the “hit” other than a true statement of what she and Ron did/didn’t do?

  32. 40 – If breaking the law and getting fined or having to pay damages are reason for resignations, then most of our City Council should have left long ago. They have a dismal record of breaking the law, being sued, losing, and paying millions in damages. One of them who has voted wrong every time is actually hoping she will be rewarded by being elected Mayor. What is wrong with this picture??

  33. A.  It seems #31 has some questions about people in departments acting for and against candidates

    B.  It is common knowledge a memo came out from the City Manager about this.

    C.  It is likely one of the people involved reads this blog a lot/

    D. Perhaps the council candidate involved nneds to clarify the issue, as he has been contacted as well.

  34. #34- Sorry but the “abrasive” comment is fact.  I’ve been to about four forums, in an attempt to see these guys (and gal) in action and Pandori just leaves that impression – with me at least.  I commend his rise in the polls but would be careful to put too much weight.  Pandori’s popularity can be explained because he has promised the world. Say “no development” and who wouldn’t sign on?  It’s neither realistic nor nor fair – I say that as a firsttimehome owner in district 7.  Without development I wouldn’t be able to live here.
But let me tell you what really struck me as concernful about Pandori.  I was at a forum at San Jose State and the question was asked of the candidates about how to sell our city.  EAch candidate gave a somewhat routine answer.  But Pandori? He openly said, “I don’t care about selling our city.”
He went on about other things but his initial comment was so glib.  Reckless.
It just struck me as odd.  I don’t see him working with leaders from other cities, states, etc.  I see a series of small visions but nothing grand.

  35. #35 – thanks for asking. although anything can happen b/w now and election day, i’m leaning towards Cortese.  my reasons are random but resonate personally:

    1) i have friends of every ethnic persuasion – literally.  the only candidate they all had heard of was cortese – it seems he’s made an effor to reach out to different groups and as a minority myself, i take that very seriously.

    2) i have close friends that live at country club villa off of mckee road – i later learned this is the property created/owned by the cortese family.  i hadn’t fathomed such a nice complex could exist on the east side – a sterotype but it’s the truth – i was surprised at such an investment on the east side.  this complex is over 10 years old and looks GREAT.  So I commend Cortese for doing something like that. perhaps now it’s in vogue for developer s to venture east of Hwy 101 but certainly not 10 yrs ago.

    3) i come from a family that puts a premium on education.  one sibling is a doctor, the other an mit-grad engineer.  so i think education is a big deal and i was impressed that cortese knows about education – real details, not the wishy washy.  and ESUHSD seems like a tough place to survive so i am impressed he did.

I see Pandori’s views as slightly impractical.  Again his stance on development i think is patently unfair, having personally tried to buy a home in this city.

pls do share your unethusiastic views because i’m curious.

#37 – i agree with you about the grand prix but not baseball, i’m a huge fan and would have loved a stadium.  but the larger point is that isn’t it sad that our current mayor only knows how to sell our city in these ways.  i have to imagine there are other ways to sell a city that don’t rock the city’s coffers so severely.  I want a city with great parks, crime free – definitely. But I also want a bad-ass city with cool and unique features and I think Pandori is too parochial to bring the two worlds together.

  36. Lin above stopped working.

To see the article, just search “Herhold” and “Mulcahy” for 2005 in the Merc’s Archives.

It’s th eonly article that comes up.

  37. # 35, you should read David’s book before jumping to conclussions. As I understand David’s plan, he’s not anti developement, he’s ati developement without adequate planning on how to maintain any new developement.

It’s not rocket science. Imagine what will happen if you add the equivalent of a city the size of Moutain View in north San Jose, and a city the size Milpitas in Coyote Valley without adequate planning for all the infrustructure, Fire , and Police; those resources would have to come from somewhere. Who’s going to respond if you have an emergecy?

Do you commute in the morning between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM on San Jose freeways? Without adequate planning for all the additional traffic those two developements would bring, What do you forsee?

A real example is our airport. The current administration just wanted to start bulldozing for the new expansion and worry about the traffic issues later. If David hadn’t created a ballot measure (that passed) requiring the city to adress the traffic issue before the expansion was completed, the traffic at the airport would probably be in gridlock for another decade or two!

It’s about a better San Jose, not just bigger. You can help make it happen.

  38. Darren Seaton always blames someone else for his incompetence.  What I like and admire about Robinson is that whether you think he is a talking like a big shot or not, he is a man who takes responsibility for his own actions.  This Seaton guy has been whining about everyone else for years.  It wasn;t his fault in kindegarden when the other little boy lost his lunch money and Daren was buying a hamburger with it.

  39. I would put Cortese and Chavez in the same category of having a very limited platform based on the buzz words like education, safety and neighborhoods. Neither of them have any explanation on how they will control costs and grow the economy when we currently are dealing with a deficit budget. Dont get me wrong their campaign strategies just might work with the majority of the voters. But dont you think they should address how they intend to pay for these upgrades to our current city services? Where doi they intend to cut? Are they going to suggest tax increases? Do they have a plan for business development. All of these things sound great to the voter but to me there is deception going on. Seems like it will be the same old business with a few less scandals. I think education is important but it certainly should not be the highest criteria for judging a good mayor. The mayor is chairman of the board. I would certainly hope that the city council members would dive into education while the mayor addresses the big picture of creating wealth and planning growth. I dont think Cindy and Dave C. have this capability. Daves from a political family and Cindy is vice mayor. Name recognition is their advantage. Their policies certainly are not what might put them over the top.

  40. 53 – Hypocrisy by the Chamber does not make it a hit piece. Sending out a mailer with the truth does not make it a hit piece.  Cindy did a good job trying to deflect the truth and make the discussion about the Chamber rather than her dismal voting record.
Fox Sr. (who does not live in SJ) seems to making much ado over nothing. If you don’t think the Chamber should tell people the truth then you have other problems. Obviously they should have followed the rules but that still doesn’t make it a hit piece.

  41. #54: Talk about insider.

    Does anyone know the background?

I read in today’s paper that Diaz had put out literature claiming support from Mike Honda. Does the cryptic note mean that the Diaz camp falsified this information as well?

There appeared to be an implication that Diaz had falsely attributed the support in a manner similar to claiming support from a neighborhood leader when she had not provided it.

Mike Honda must be really peeved.

  42. Atleast Dave C. had the sense not to take Scott out to Pleasant Hills Golf course for a round (requiring a break in of course) as his idea of the place representing a wonderful example of both the new and traditional San Jose, as Cindy did at the 4th Street venue.

  43. Dear Mr. Maden, the way you make up for the 1% set aside is to put the brakes on the massive budget draining glut of unbrideled housing development with no increase in commercial tax base. Please read Scott H. editorial on the Evergreen Visioning impact. No genious here, just the obvious, which your profunditity has supressed.

  44. Item:  Your very stalwart reporter has it on the authority that Seaton engineered this fiasco on his own.

Item:  If Reed loses, he will begin his campagin for supervisor right away, if McHugh is elected.

If not, Reed is planning to begin a supervisoral effort.

Item:  In one city near San Jose, there will be four candidates for mayor.

That is the skinny and as always, very hush, hush.

  45. I hope Richard Robinson chimes in as well on this fact:

Slate mailers (of which the Diaz/Honda item was placed) are generally run by an ethically challenged bunch.  They print what campaigns send them—period.  They sometimes goes as far as behaving like Tony Soprano and extort money from campaigns or say, “we’ll just put the other guy on for free.”

For this group to claim that they got mixed up with a different candidate is almost funny.  To be quoted as such in the newspaper is probably an honor for the group who put it out.  They can add to their pitch for future business, “we’ll lie for you.”

Here is how the piece reads:

    San Jose City Council
    Manny Diaz
Former Planning Commission Chair who will put neighborhoods first.  He will stand up for schools and neighborhood safety.  Supported by Congressman Mike Honda and San Jose Firefighters.

Now, does that sound like something the slate mail dude would make up?  If it is about another candidate, who?  That description fits no one else.

  46. It was my impression that development in Coyote Valley was on hold.  Yesterday I took a ride through the Valley and saw the Cal Pine Power generating plant which apprears to be idle or off line.  Then around the Santa Teresa Road area SOBRATO has erected several signs and has begun clearing ground.  I didn’t read the details on the signs to determine if it was commercial or residential development.  What is going on there?

  47. #42.  Sorry JohnMichael but I mst repeat…HIT PIECE.  I must also repeat I am NOT supporting Ms. Chavez.  I try to play a clean game of pool and this wasn’t clean.  I mean really…support the Grand Prix but condem Cindy for supporting it?  C’mon, I have to agree with Fox Sr.

  48. The latest from the Diaz camp is that his mailing which attributed support from Honda was a screwup by his printer.

Right, the printer accidently redesigned the literature after receiving it

The Diaz camp seems completely incompetent, what a shock.

  49. I would just like to point out how rediculous #32’s comment was regarding my first post.
Reads from a script? If you’re going to sling mud at least do with legitimate claims.

  50. I really cannot remember Tony Soprano ever offering to do anuthing for free.  He does, if he does not like the competition, like to make snide comments about them.  Why do people purchase spots on them?

  51. More of the excellent political skinny

Item:  It’s going down to a race between Cindy Chavez and Dave Pandoir…likely endorsement for Chavez coming from Dave Cortese with the Mayor resigning early to give Cindy that leg up.

Item:  Karen S. wins the DA race…while Yeager posts first…and a virtual tie between Lezotte and Mahan…causing Jesse D nothing but trouble until July.  Instant runoff becomes the fashion based on this month long trouble.

Item:  Tomorrow in San Jose a big name mailer coming out for Davey Pandori.  A disappointment for Davey C.

Finally, with a Westly win, Angelides becomes Hillary Clinton’s prinicipal financial backer.

That’s all the skinny for now, as it is on the QT and very, very hush, hush.

  52. Regarding post #40. Pat Dando while in Council always stood up for long established industrial and retail businesses, voting against the majority on rezoning them out to pasture. This, while the previouse Chamber admin stood idly by. I thought they should have named themselves the Chamber of Developers. Anyway, there is an illumating Point/Counterpoint piece in the Rose Garden Resident paper, with Fox Sr. sparing with Pat. How obvious is the vindictive slandering of Fox, versus Dando’s clean and respectful statement of motive.

  53. Dan #40:  Sorry, I must have missed the memo.  When did factually accurate reporting of reprehensible behavior become reprehensible reporting?  This PC crap has gone WAY too far.

On the other hand, if COMPAC violated campaign contribution/spending requirements, they should be censured and fined, as appropriate.

But nothing in that mailer was factually inaccurate.  Just ‘cuz it hits home and hurts, does not make it a “hit piece” (with the negative connotation that term carries).

Just ‘cuz it hits home hard, and accurately at that, does not make it a violation of the law.

  54. Dan#40:  I just received a second COMPAC mailer—Yesterday, AFTER the election!  That one seems far more sleazy than the first.

Dando & Company ought to get their money back from the mail house for delivery thre days after the elction.
